Interview with Greg Jackson: Public Safety, Affordability, and Government Accountability for DC Ward 2 Voters
Ward Two Democrats sat down with Greg Jackson at Prego Again on 17th Street to discuss his campaign for the Democratic at-large DC Council seat and his vision for making DC safer, more affordable, and more accountable to residents.
Jackson shares his path to public service, including moving to DC after UVA, working on campaigns, founding DC for Obama, surviving a shooting in Shaw in 2013, serving as Mayor Bowser’s youngest cabinet member, helping pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and advising President Biden as head of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
In the conversation, Jackson argues that DC needs a stronger, evidence-based public safety strategy rooted in a public-health, all-of-government approach. He discusses support for victims of violence, upstream gun accountability, higher case clearance rates, youth mental health investment, stronger recreation and school climate, teacher support, expanded housing supply, homeownership assistance, small business support, safer transportation, and a more proactive 311 constituent services system.
